Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.
The player's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
He saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
